Saturday, ooooh ooooh

So saturday's outing for our friend, L's, birthday was lackluster, not that we didn't all get good and plastered, or that the night was miserable, but just wasn't the night we sat out to have. Hit our fav local bar first to see Jen Woodhouse, whom lace and i had never heard- well she was very good but it was solo guitar and piano, the kind of music that will almost lull u into sleep after a couple of beers and a few shots. We did not come out with the intention of being mellow and the ladies wanted to dance. So down the street we went to one of the local clubs, only to find a packed bar with no one on the dance floor except a couple of guys who i was rather concerned about as they watched themselves dance in the wall mirrors. And we sat for at least 45 minutes thinking it'd get better towards the latter part of the night. But it didn't- oh wait there were a few more no talent guys got on the dance floor (i hope they were too drunk/high to realize they looked like jackasses but unfortunately i don't think that was the case). We weren't about to get out there on the floor, oh did i mention its elevated, to be the center of the clubs attention. All these people paid to get in a club dressed in their saturday night best to sit around and be seen i guess. To top it off the DJ sucked muchly, all the beats sounded the same and half of the tracks i didn't even recognize and i'm fairly steeped in music. I've heard better mixes at fraternity parties!

On that note, i agree with the popular sentiment that hip hop is dead. It really sucks right now especially with all these dumbass dance tracks invading the air waves- walk it out, soulja boy, chicken noodle soup, motorcycle, and on and fucking on. They all fucking suck, are ppl so stupid now that the whole chorus needs to be how to do the dance- can anyone else remember the days that if a song had a dance to it u learned it from yr friends- it didn't tell u how to do it. These tracks are like a damn instructional video. Now rap artists from LA to Savannah are bringing out one to make a quick buck- every one of these artists will be one hit wonders in five years- mark my word. Somebody do something original, please. I never really got into hip hop (except some Tupac but his music transcends) until the southern explosion, that was real, that was saying things i could relate to, that was true party music. And living in georgia i caught the wave on the rise before the rest of the country even knew who ludacris or juvenile or lil jon or any other southern rap artist was. Back when the south was truly dirty. But for about two years now I've thought the days of the "dirty south" are gone. Most everything sounds the same, the pioneer artists have put so much on their plates that putting out albums is low on the priority list, and those remaining are riding every bandwagon fad that comes along. I guess all good things must come to an end.

But to finish the saturday saga, we ended up heading home, a little burned at a wasted 15 dollars, hit Krystal for some quick food (that being a joke- the service from the Krystal on this side of town is anything but quick) and spent the next hour taking lemon drop shots. Good times and good sleep prevailed :)
